With major elections around the globe, including the United States presidential election, just around the corner, we would like to take this opportunity to remind our readers

about the importance of voting and ensuring that their voices are heard. While every election at all levels are important in the proper functioning of a democracy, with everything happening this year, both in and out of our control, the upcoming elections are in a bigger spotlight than ever.

No matter which party you support or whose campaign promises draw your attention, exercising your right to vote is a vital component of any democratic nation.

So, if you’re one of those people still undecided about whether to vote or not, here are some reasons why you should!

It Is Your Right

In most countries, voting is a fundamental right of every citizen above the age of eighteen. But this was not always the case. Many other countries around the world have a dark history of disenfranchisement. For an alarming portion of the collective world’s history, exclusionary measures against women, people belonging to minorities and marginalized communities, etc., were common practice. Even the first world, developed nations like Switzerland, were late to the party, only allowing women to vote at a federal level in 1971. In countries like Saudi Arabia, women weren’t allowed to vote until December 2015, just five years ago!

Voting was a right that was hard-won and not easily given. It is important we exercise it today not only for us but for all those that fought and died for the right.

Elections Are Consequential

Contrary to what some might assume, elections do matter! While some of the country’s far-reaching diplomatic policies at an international level might be the same no matter who wins, there are a lot of decisions that are taken depending on who gets voted into power. With each party having its own agenda, set of campaign promises, and view of what’s important versus what’s not, elections are your chance to have a say in the matter.

Your vote is your backing of the party that falls in line with your beliefs, morals, and policies.

Decide Where Your Money Goes

You contribute directly to the way your tax dollars are spent when you are casting your vote. Whether that’s on healthcare, social services, funding the military, etc., voting is your chance to dictate how your taxes are spent by the government.

Be The Change You Want

While a single vote isn’t much more than a drop in the ocean, every drop contributes to the way the ocean flows. In the bigger picture, every single vote counts! In a democratic society, voting (whether that’s in the local city committee election or the presidential race) is how changes are made. If you’re looking to make a positive change in your community, voting is the way to go!

Vote For The Future

Voting has far-reaching implications that extend beyond just a term. Decisions made now can impact the lives of future generations. So, if you are a parent or a grandparent, consider voting for your kids and grandchildren. Whether it’s issues regarding the climate, environment, or funding for schools and educational programs, the decisions we make today can dictate what happens tomorrow.

Cryptocurrencies – A Democratic Tool

In the world of finance, there is no better extension of the idea of democracy than cryptocurrency. Cryptocurrencies are inherently democratic in nature. They provide autonomy and privacy to their users by eliminating the need for a central authority who takes all the decisions. Much like in a democratic country, every member of the blockchain enjoys the same level of access, authority, and security.

A general consensus needs to be reached for any data or information in the blockchain to be altered and cannot be done without the express consent of the parties involved, ensuring that every party’s voice is heard.

Cryptocurrencies are the way forward to a world in which democratic characteristics are woven into our finances. If you’d like to be a part of this world and benefit from what crypto-based financial services have to offer, Bank Xero is for you!
