Your mouth is the gateway to your inner body and if it isn’t properly cleaned, there are fat chances that you may catch an infection. Therefore, taking good care of your mouth and oral hygiene is essential if you want to enjoy a healthy life. You must be aware that there are billions of bacteria living inside your mouth.

Even though all of these bacteria aren’t harmful to you but if you don’t practice good oral hygiene you might end up taking the harmful ones inside your body and becoming sick. As a result, maintaining good oral hygiene and regularly visiting your dentist is imperative for a healthy life.

Regardless of where you live within the Emirates, visiting a dental clinic in Dubai or anywhere near your home is important if you want to have good oral health. Always remember that it is important to brush your teeth twice a day to get that dazzling Hollywood smile. Likewise, using mouthwash regularly and flossing at least thrice a week is also crucial for keeping your teeth in the best possible shape.

Apart from these basic techniques follow these dental hygiene tips to keep your teeth pearly white all the time.

Observe Proper Brushing and Flossing

We all brush regularly right! But how can you be sure that you’re brushing properly? You would be shocked to know that the majority of people have been brushing wrong their entire life. The right way of brushing is by placing your brush at an angle of 45 against the gums and moving it back and forth gently. Similarly, brushing the outer surfaces of teeth before the inner and chewing ones is also recommended.

Likewise, in order to properly floss your teeth, break 18-inch long floss, wind it around your middle fingers and pass it through your teeth. Once the floss reaches your gum line, curve it into a C shape and against your teeth.

Gently bring the floss back and forth between the teeth and the gum and move it up and down to thoroughly clean your teeth from all sides. Once you have cleaned all your teeth using this method, rinse your mouth.

Clean Your Brush

Another important thing that most people overlook is the cleaning of their toothbrushes. We all use a toothbrush to clean our teeth but how often do you take time to clean your brush. Not at all, this is the basic mistake that the majority of people make.

We all use an unclean brush for cleaning our teeth. Even if you wash your brush after every time you use it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s clean. Therefore, to be on the safer side, you should wash your brush with clean water thoroughly before using it.

Change Your Brush

Dentists recommend that you should change your toothbrush every 3 months. The main reason behind is that the bristles of your brush deteriorate over time and if you keep on using the same brush then you won’t be cleaning your teeth. Therefore, it’s important that you must change your brush after every 3 to 4 months.

Use Tongue Scraper

Some toothbrushes come with an attached tongue scraper that you can use for cleaning your tongue. Even if your toothbrush doesn’t have a tongue scraper, you can use your toothbrush to scrape off the residue from your tongue or you can get a separate tongue scraper.

Don’t snack after brushing

Never eat anything after you have brushed your teeth. In the case you have eaten a snack after brushing, you have to brush again.

Limit your intake of Sugary foods

Sugary foods and drinks can do more damage to your teeth than you can imagine. The sugar in these foods reacts with the bacteria on the surface of your teeth to form plaque, which, if not removed in time, can cause tooth decay.

Intake Sufficient Amounts of Water

Drinking plenty of water isn’t only good for your overall health but it is also needed to keep your teeth healthy. When you drink water, you wash away all the plaque that is forming in your mouth and keeps your teeth from getting decayed.

Visit Your Dental Hygienist Regularly

Similarly, visiting your dentist every 6 months is essential for your health. Regardless whether you’re wearing any dental aids or not, getting regular dental check-ups will help you in staying healthy. Because of such reasons dentists recommend that everyone should visit a dentist after every 5-6 months.
